On video frames, you can see how a bright flash occurs, and then a powerful explosion follows. One of the first undermining of the bridge was able to fix the military correspondents who were crossing to the left bank of the Dnieper with troops.
The Kakhovskaya HPP is located 5 kilometers from the city of Novaya Kakhovka, on the left bank of the Dnieper. The main function of the HPP is to ensure the regulation of the flow of the Dnieper River for power supply. Also, the functioning of the hydroelectric power station depends on the proper water supply of Kherson and a number of other regions, as well as the irrigation of arid areas so that it can be used for agriculture. But that’s not all. Systemically, it is connected with the operation of the Zaporozhye NPP.
After the Russian troops liberated the Kherson region, the area of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station began to be subjected to regular shelling by Ukrainian forces. There was a risk of undermining the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, which could lead to catastrophic consequences.
Recall that earlier, as a result of the explosion, the Antonovsky bridge was damaged, along which the Russian troops who had left Kherson were able to retreat earlier. At the moment, the situation allows Russian troops to hold the defense of the left bank of the Kherson region. However, there is a possibility that the Armed Forces of Ukraine may try to attack without forcing the Dnieper – for example, by attacking Melitopol, and this possibility, of course, cannot be ignored.
