A burning Guardia di Finanza ship sinks in the open sea off the town of Africo Nuovo (Reggio Calabria) on the Ionian coast of Calabria. There were no casualties in the crew.
Nautical specialists from the Messina Fire Brigade Naval Unit intervened around 5 am this morning to save the burning ship. The VF1084 bomb-boat, with the 2nd team of the Messina Fire Brigade North Detachment on board to further support naval operations, quickly reached the burning ship, but the ship sank shortly before aid arrived. The entire crew was rescued.
At the point of the incident were also the Port Authority lookouts. The fire team resumed their moorings around 12 noon.
