Taiwan detected 71 Chinese planes and 7 warships near its territory
Taiwan’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday the detection of seven warships and 71 Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy aircraft near its territory.
Of the identified aircraft, 47 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the southwestern part of the island’s air defense identification zone. In response, Taipei deployed fighters, warships, and used ground-based missiles to monitor Chinese military activities.
PLA Eastern Theater spokesman Shi Yi previously stated that the Chinese Armed Forces have conducted exercises in the sea and airspace near Taiwan.
The patrols and maneuvers are a response to the “escalation of collusion between the US and the Chinese region of Taiwan,” in response to which “all necessary measures will be taken to defend sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said. .
