On the morning of this Monday, August 30, 2021, an explosion was reported in the vicinity of the Police District of the Juan Atalaya de Cúcuta citadel, in the Norte de Santander department.
“A balance of 12 police officers and two (2) civilians with hearing impairments was the result of an explosion registered at the Atalaya Police Station, in Cúcuta city.
According to the version offered by the commander of the Cúcuta Metropolitan Police, Brigadier General Óscar Moreno, when the device exploded, the uniformed men were preparing to leave to comply with their working day, while other two civilians were traveling in the vicinity of the security headquarters.
In their statements published on the social media @PoliciaCucuta, this Monday criminals left an improvised explosive device under one of the street furniture chairs in District 1 of the Police, in the Comuneros de Atalaya neighborhood, in Cúcuta, capital of the department of North of Santander, in Colombia.
He specified that the explosion caused physical damage to the police headquarters, while “the personnel who left or started their working hours were affected, they have some acoustic traumas (…) also two citizens who were passing through the place caused them those traumas.”
He stressed that both the Army and members of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Cúcuta, carry out an inspection to assess the damage left by the explosion. He also pointed out that some elements were collected at the scene that will be of great help in the investigations.
